On November 1st & 2nd of 2022, the surviving victims and loved ones of the 17 murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, were given the long awaited opportunity to face the Parkland murderer with their impact statements. As this was done before the official sentencing, the entire defense team tried to muzzle the victimized families once more by demanding the state “tap down” on their statements. This was heavily insensitive toward their trauma and completely uncalled for. Public defender Gordon Weekes then had the audacity to claim his defense team “had to endure far more than anyone else in the room”, even though the families sitting RIGHT THERE in the court room had to relive their loved ones’ murders through graphic images and testimony from the medical examiner. The families and surviving victims of the MSD school shooting have every right to feel outraged, as it was completely inappropriate and uncalled for to make such an insensitive remark. Gordon Weekes and his entire defense team showed zero professionalism throughout the trial, and never once made an effort to show any sensitivity or care toward the victims. It’s time we tell Mr. Weekes the god honest truth: he is not cut out for the legal profession. He has an overly unprofessional & insensitive persona, and it is time he steps down. Time to go, Gordon!
