Marvel has recently released a line of t-shirts based on the popular 'Avengers' comic book series, that tells boys to 'Be a Hero' and girls that they 'Need a Hero'.
In stories, fairy-tales, video games and old wives tales, girl's are told time and time again that they need saving. Girls are just as smart, strong and capable as boys and should be told that they are such, not that they need a boy to rescue them or "save them" from a crisis. Marvel is telling girls the opposite, that they do need boys to save them and care for them and that they can't be heroes themselves. Girls are heroes too and it's time Marvel acknowledges this.
