Good Morning,
Today is the day. Adopting the 10-Year Transit Development plan for LeeTran is the last item on this mornings Lee County Comission agenda. I want to start by saying Thank You to the 26 of you who have taken the time to join with me on getting on record in objection to this plan.
I use the Bus in this county myself, not as my primary means of transportation because I couldn't lead the life I do if I was constrained to our Public Transit infrastructure. And that's a shame because I am one of the 63% of mellinials that the LeeTran report talks about who want to power our lives by Public Transit.
Over 3 million riders travel more than 19,000,000 miles a year riding LeeTran and yet our average wait time between buses in Lee County is 49 minutes because we never in a county over 700 sq miles in area have more than 48 buses on the road at any one time. The average bus holds 48 passenger's which means in a county of over 600,000 residents the maximum capacity of LeeTran at peak hours is 2,300 people.
If you can come to this morning's meeting and Speak Out with me please do so. If not I will have Live coverage of the LeeTran vote on my facebook page www.facebook.com/Sean.Declet
I fully expect to lose the Vote this morning. But our fight does not stop there. In November we have the choice to elect Diane Zigrossi in District 5 who will work to bring LeeTran back up next year for a new 10-year plan.
I am also working with other local supporters of Green Party Presidential nominee Dr. Jill Stein to form a local chapter of the Green Party in Lee County. We have over 100,000 registered independents in Lee County and at yesterdays Trump Rally the single largest protest group was Green. One of the very first policy issues the Lee County Greens will be looking into organizing around is Public Transit because it is serious issue in this county that none of our Political groups are properly focused on.
Real changes does not come easy or happen by chance but if we get involved and stay involved and speak up and up and up then I believe we can transform Lee County into the county we know it can be.
Its In Our Hands,
Sean Declet
