JIM PATTISON PLANS TO SELL PROPERTY TO TRUMP ADMINISTRATION FOR NEW DETENTION CENTRE
LINK TO WATCH BOYCOTT VIDEO BY EMILY LOWAN
We, the undersigned, are calling on the Jim Pattison Group to immediately halt any plans to sell property to the United States government for the construction of a new immigration detention facility. This is not acceptable.
Reports that a Pattison‑owned property may be sold for this purpose have caused deep alarm among community members on both sides of the border. Many people are gravely concerned about the documented conditions within existing detention centres, including reports of inadequate medical care, unsafe or insufficient food, family separation, and the mistreatment of individuals — including long‑term residents and U.S. citizens — who have been detained in error.
As long‑time customers of Save-On-Foods and Quality Foods — both Pattison-owned businesses, we cannot in good conscience continue supporting a corporation that would profit from the expansion of a system widely criticized for human rights violations. A decision of this magnitude carries moral, social, and humanitarian consequences that extend far beyond a simple real‑estate transaction.
Canada has also faced escalating political and economic pressure from the current U.S. administration, including tariffs and hostile rhetoric. Many Canadians feel strongly that our businesses should not contribute to policies or facilities that may harm vulnerable people — especially when those people include asylum seekers, long‑term residents awaiting documentation, and individuals who have been wrongfully detained. ICE agents are now murdering innocent people while slandering their names, maligning their character and dishonouring their memory.
As community organizers, advocates, and consumers, we are urging the Jim Pattison Group to:
- Reject any sale of property intended for use as an immigration detention or holding facility.
- Publicly clarify its position and commit to upholding human rights in all business dealings.
- Ensure that corporate actions reflect the values of the communities that support its businesses.
Until such commitments are made, many of us will choose to boycott Save-On-Foods, Quality Foods, and other Pattison-owned companies (see list below).
This petition represents a growing movement of people in Canada and the United States who refuse to remain silent or complicit.
We call on the Jim Pattison Group to act responsibly, ethically, and transparently — and to ensure that no part of its business contributes to the suffering of vulnerable individuals.

Friends, please take a quick moment to contact Jim Pattison to let him know how you feel, and that you intend to boycott his businesses. The only thing big business seems to care about is profit. And this is profit over people. Please support your smaller, local businesses, instead.
