As part of general Associated Road rehabilitation work, the City of Fullerton has identified that Associated Road between Bastanchury and Imperial can safely undergo a lane reduction from 4 car travel lanes to 2. This reduction would reduce car travel speeds and reduce the risk of road injury and death. It would also allow for widening and buffering of the bicycle lanes, which are currently only 6 feet wide – far too narrow for safe travel right next to high-speed car traffic.

This project is a step toward the improved road safety and safer bicycle infrastructure that Fullerton desperately needs.

• A 30-year survey of car traffic on this stretch of Associated showed that the number of lanes can be reduced from 4 to 2 without impacting traffic flow.
• A lane reduction will lower travel speeds, creating a safer environment for all road users.
• Fullerton has seen a number of bicyclist injuries and deaths over the past several years due to unsafe infrastructure.
• Improving safety for bicyclists will encourage more bicycle trips along this important transportation corridor.
