Tell Family Dollar to Come Correct, No sexual harassment! No Retaliation from the Abuser!

The Issue

So last August the manager at the Family Dollar in Tierra Amarilla, NM, said to my teenage daughter, “I don’t like them skinny, because I like to be rough.”

After phone calls to the store and being hung up on, we called Family Dollar Corp and was navigated to Rochelle - presumably at the national corporation headquarters. She said she’d take care of it.

The manager, whose name is Raymond, said he was talking to his co-worker and she should have stayed out of it. He said to me, “That was an A and B conversation and she should see her way out of it!”


She walked up to the counter to pay for her items, not like they were whispering in a corner and she stepped into the conversation.


Months passed, this guy has continued to harass us. With no proof, he said that same daughter was caught stealing in the store. That’s a lie. Then he tried to blame my underage son, again no proof, and kids say that never happened. There was never a police report, no video evidence, it’s just his word.


Three days ago we learned that this manager was working with the police to have us permanently banned from the store. We were also told that this same manager had been creeping our social media accounts and downloading photos of the entire family - including minors. 


Two days ago my boys and I went to get DP, and the manager came up to us in the line and told us to get out, he was not going to serve us. I asked why, and he said he was working on permanently banning us but in the mean time to leave. Which we did, not so nicely, but we did.


Day before yesterday, the police detained my kids at the local Subway. They were told if they didn’t sign this paper (that the manager obviously made up himself) saying if they went back in the store it would be trespassing.
I flew in my car to them. Told them not to sign anything, and refused to take the paper or sign myself. I feel like signing would have been an admission of guilt.


I had been speaking with Rochelle, and she asked me to wait until Thursday, and that she needed “proof,” because it was my word against his.
So through all this I recorded, and sent to her. I can see from the texts that she hasn’t even opened the “evidence” that she requested.


TODAY, the regional manager, Jim Maruffo, called me. Said immediately that he “knew the whole story,” and had talked to Rochelle and Raymond. Now remember, I have never talked to this man. He says he’s upholding the ban. He NEVER let me tell him what was even happening. He yelled at me, talked over me, and hung up when I asked his name. Luckily, he had already left it on my messages.


So basically, my daughter was sexually harassed by a middle-aged manager and FAMILY DOLLAR has allowed him to not only continue to work there, but to target this same child and her entire family.

- Lift the retaliatory ban on this family. 

- Fire this re-offending manager. 

- Reprimand Jim Maruffo, District Manager, for the way he has mishandled the situation. 

- A public apology from Family Dollar.
