'Cupcake Protest' Raises $2,000 for Charity!
M. KakowkisStowe, VT, United States

May 22, 2017
While state troopers, private security firms and Stowe police made the high school look like a crime scene this weekend, the happy and festive resistance Bake Sale raised $1,980.23 for Doctors without Borders, Seeds of Change VT and the Autistic Self Advocacy Network. Huzzah!

While our entire community is breathing a collective sign of relief that this event is over, in other ways our work is just beginning. This event highlighted the fact that Vermont is not immune from anti-science sentiment. It is clear that Vermont - and Stowe in particular - is going to be the target of the anti-vax community for the foreseeable future.
Luckily, a powerful and savvy coalition has formed and will be ready to reactivate should the need arise. And this weekend, many community members who had remained quiet during the debate told us that if this happens again, they will not stay silent.
Keep fighting for good science, against public figures who threaten their detractors and do not take the herd immunity we currently enjoy for granted!
Be well!
