Many people have been asking the coalition what we can do the day of the H&H event. We don't want to validate the event by picketing at the high school (or risk being targeted by any extreme attendees) but we DO want to show our support for the autism community and life-saving vaccination efforts
We hope you will join your neighbors on Saturday, May 20 for a bake sale at the Alchemist Brewery to benefit several local and international organizations promoting the health and well-being of children and adults around the world.
This is an opportunity to gather as a community in support of Vermont values, including a concern for the well being of others, evidence-based science and freedom from vaccine-preventable disease.
Proceeds will benefit Doctors Without Borders, the Autism Self Advocacy Network and Seeds of Change Vermont.
Additional details about beneficiaries:
Autism Self Advocacy Network (http://autisticadvocacy.org/) ASAN advances disability rights for those with autism. This is an organization run by and for autistic people. Their motto is “Nothing About Us, Without Us!”
Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders http://www.msf.org/) MSF is an international organization of doctors that serves populations in distress. Among much valuable work, they do significant work vaccinating vulnerable populations around the world. They vaccinated 1,537,400 people against measles in 2015 alone.
Seeds of Change VT (http://www.seedsofchangevt.com/) A local organization that provides early-intervention ABA services for children with autism. We will be raising funds specifically for new toys.
We'd like to welcome all members of the community to get involved. We are seeking bakers and people who would like to help man the table. Email vermontersforscience@outlook.com if you would like to get involved.
This is a positive, inclusive event for those who want to support the work of these organizations. Everyone is welcome, no matter where you are on the autism spectrum. We also welcome all sexual orientations, gender identities, racial identities, religions, ages, political affiliations, dreams for the future, and eye colors.
