The Issue

Los Angeles Fans and Residents Demand Respect for Latino and Immigrant Communities

Los Angeles is celebrating as the Dodgers are World Series champions once again, and their owner Mark Walter is now purchasing the Lakers.

But beneath the excitement, there’s a deep concern: reports show that Walter’s investment firm, Guggenheim Partners, has held stakes in private prison and surveillance companies such as GEO Group and Palantir Technologies — both of which profit from immigrant detention and deportation systems.

And now, with a recent Supreme Court decision allowing broader immigration raids and detentions in Los Angeles — including stops based partly on ethnicity or language — these investments directly harm the very communities that built the Dodgers’ and Lakers’ legacies.

Latino and immigrant families are the heartbeat of Los Angeles — and the backbone of both fan bases.

We cannot continue to celebrate championships funded by investments that tear our communities apart.

We Demand:

Immediate divestment from all companies connected to immigrant detention, private prisons, or ICE surveillance contracts.

Public disclosure of any Guggenheim Partners or TWG Global holdings related to incarceration or deportation systems.

Commitment from the Dodgers and Lakers to reject future partnerships or sponsorships tied to detention or policing industries.

Reinvestment in community — equal funds directed toward immigrant legal aid, education, and empowerment programs in Los Angeles.

Why This Matters:

The Dodgers and Lakers are symbols of unity and pride in a city built by immigrants.

From Chávez Ravine to South Central, from Boyle Heights to Koreatown, fans have poured love, time, and hard-earned money into these teams.

That loyalty deserves to be honored — not undermined by investments in companies profiting from racial profiling, detention, and deportation.

Our Message to Mark Walter:

“You own two of Los Angeles’ greatest institutions. Show us that they belong to all of us.

Disinvest from detention. Stand with immigrant families.

Lead Los Angeles by example.”

Add Your Name:

Sign this petition to demand that Mark Walter, the Dodgers, and the Lakers stand with Los Angeles’ Latino and immigrant communities — and cut financial ties to immigrant detention for good.
