Tell CrossFit to Change Their Exclusionary Gender Classification Policy

Tell CrossFit to Change Their Exclusionary Gender Classification Policy
The Issue
The OUT Foundation is an organization devoted to dismantling barriers that impede LGBTQ+ individuals from accessing health, fitness, and wellness. We were disappointed to learn that CrossFit has implemented a new gender classification policy that is exclusionary to trans participants --requiring that they participate in the gender category that matches the gender they were assigned at birth, rather than the gender with which they identify. This policy creates a major obstruction in our mission and negatively impacts the trans community by restricting their full participation in CrossFit activities.
This policy, contrary to the principles of inclusion and equality, stands against the recommended guidelines from both The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and The International Olympic Committee (IOC), which have policies in place that allow trans athletes to participate, based on self-identified gender for NCAA, and on specific transition-related requirements for IOC.
CrossFit, as a global platform, has an immense influence and such a policy not only engrains misconceptions but also amplifies discrimination against trans individuals, endangering their mental, social and physical well-being. According to a study published in The Lancet in 2016, trans individuals are at a significantly higher risk of facing mental health issues due to experiences of stigma, discrimination and abuse.
By signing this petition, you are advocating for change. A change that will urge CrossFit to amend its current policy, to become inclusive and respectful to all its participants, regardless of gender identity. Your signature will give a voice to those who are being overlooked. Sign the petition, promote equality, and help us work towards an all-inclusive fitness community.
