Tell CPS: Don't let one bad count close a 50-year-old school
The Issue
Latino Youth High School has served Little Village and Pilsen since 1974. Its students are 16 to 21 years old and came to it after other schools failed them.
Last year, immigration raids kept students home. CPS counted enrollment in the middle of it and cut the schools budget by nearly 30%. Half the teachers are being laid off. Today the school serves 119 students and is paid for 108.
CPS guarantees every district school at least 10 teachers no matter how small. Option schools get no such protection.
We ask the Chicago Board of Education to restore hold harmless protections for option schools and to fund them for the students they're actually serving.
This is not a handout. Pay schools for the students they teach.
