Taxing the Rich is one of the central policy debates in this time of inequality. Enforcing a new tax on billionaires could change the distribution of income in society, support equitable growth, and finance public goods & services that improve the quality of life for everyone. 

What's happening? 

Between 2018 and 2020, the nation’s wealthiest 400 families paid an average tax rate of 8%.

In 2021, the top 1% of households in the United States held 32.3% of the country’s wealth while the bottom 50% held 2.6%. 

Why is it important?

It is wrong for America to have a tax code that results in America’s wealthiest households paying a low tax rate than hard-working families.
