I think we can get an important criminal justice reform bill passed through Congress and signed by President Obama in the next few months, but only with your help.
Tell Senator Mitch McConnell to schedule a vote on pending legislation that would be a good first step to fixing our broken criminal justice system. Click here to sign the petition: http://chn.ge/1S9eB41
Yesterday, House Speaker Paul Ryan committed to advancing legislation in the U.S. House and made the case for why Republicans and Democrats should embrace this urgent opportunity:
“Mandatory minimum sentences have ended up putting people away for long prison terms that ruin lives and hurt communities. We could’ve had alternatives to incarceration and better means of actually dealing with their problems, instead of basically destroying someone's life.”
The Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act would reduce harsh mandatory minimum sentences and allow judges to use their discretion.
Support for these reforms is at an all-time high but Senator McConnell has not yet scheduled a vote.
Tell Senator McConnell to listen to the American people and take action today: http://chn.ge/1S9eB41
With your help, we can keep people out of prison who don’t need to be there, so we can keep families together and communities whole.
