It's been exciting this week to see the cascade of news about companies rethinking their policies concerning guns -- Dick's, Kroger's L.L. Bean and Walmart changing gun sales policies, REI and MEC dropping products made by companies owned by gun manufacturer Vista Outdoors, and Black Rock announcing a more activist stance towards gun manufacturers that it is invested in. Companies are paying attention to what their customers are telling them, so let's keep talking to them. In what looks like good news, Direct Long Term Care's NRA page is now down. They have not made a formal announcement as far as I can see, will be following up with them. In another success story, shortly after a Change.org petition was launched (and before I even had time to tell you about it), Gargiulo's Restaurant in Coney Island announced that it would no longer host an NRA fundraiser. Kudos to the folks at Brooklyn Young Democrats who spotted this and got the word out. On less positive news Georgia decided to punish Delta for ending its NRA discount by taking away a planned tax break worth $40 million. Anyone here who is from Georgia, hope you will vote against the politicians who were behind this. Delta's CEO's response was fantastic: "Our values are not for sale." Meanwhile, several states are telling Delta they would be happy to have them relocate their headquarters there. And this may make Amazon less interested in moving its headquarters to Atlanta. As Morgan Freeman pointed out on Twitter "Karma is a bitch." And on even less positive news, Roku announced that it would not drop NRATV. No word yet from Amazon or Google Chromecast on this. Let's not forget that there are still a bunch of companies that have not yet severed their ties with the NRA. Please check our Google doc for an updated list, and keep contacting the companies! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Oh_NQIOmEZAA7goe4Z_xKQ5wZxp405sx3FAcmVaQl1Y/edit?usp=sharing Finally, I'd like to share this thoughtful article from the Atlantic about what we have been doing. Agree that we need to make sure this is not a flash in the pan, and that we also push for real policy changes.
