Firstly my apologies for a recent lack of updates. This is partially because I have been very busy with many things including National Bike Week, The Queen Victoria Cyclo Cross, My Job and somehow finding time to spend with my family.
However there also hasn't been a lot to update until now.
On friday I met with Cllr Shaun Davies, Jonathan Rowe (A council director) and Jo Middleton (Southwater Programme Manager).
I was grateful for the opportunity to speak with them.
We discussed the Southwater Development and I gave a short presentation of my ideas. I showed a selection of comments from the petition and laid out the suggestions.
On the whole the response was positive and one comment that came back was that Cllr Davies agreed with 90% of what I was saying.
He often walks through the park to work and in his job he often visits the buildings around the Telford Sculpture. He said he particularly enjoyed seeing the statue.
It was also mentioned that previous plans had suggested that a new Council HQ would be built on this land. He said this had been scrapped a number of year before.
It was confirmed that there were no firm plans for the land currently and they were in the process of drawing them up. He has agreed to meet me to go through the plans in the near future and I got a strong feeling that the input and feedback I provide to them was very welcome.
However until we know exactly what they intend to do with the land there is little to do.
Hopefully they will agree with us and keep the land free from building. It will require some work if it is to be used for community events.
Personally I would like to keep it simple with the Telford Sculpture at one end with places to sit along the centre.
I also think that the area where the "Boules Pit" and Chess tables by the lake would be a great position for a pop up bar or cafe. This could then use the green patch as a area for people to take their drinks and sit on a warm summers evening.
I shall keep you posted on any further developments.
