Don't extend Parking Enforcement at Meters in Charleston to 10 P.M.!
The Issue
Office workers, students, and tour guides working in busy downtown Charleston have long depended on the no-meter enforcement past 6:00 P.M. rule to be able to enjoy downtown with friends and family, to make night classes, or to work past the usual 9-5 P.M. time period for work. This new regulation which declares Charleston will no longer allow free parking at meters after 6:00 P.M. not only creates an inconvenience for the thousands of city employees, but also for tourists who have to find parking for late night tours, restaurant trips, etc. While some have posited this will encourage 'alternative forms of travel,' (source: https://www.postandcourier.com/news/charleston-s-parking-meter-fees-going-to-an-hour-downtown/article_e1d2e57c-2214-11e8-8f21-671191fc675f.html),what all this really does is add to an already increasing list of burdens for locals (and even visitors) in our beloved city. Please reverse this decision!
