Teachers have urged the Tamil Nadu government to create a “Unified Teacher Service System"

In Tamil Nadu, teachers in government schools face significant challenges due to the absence of a standardized employment system across various departments. This has resulted in a lack of equal employment opportunities, inconsistent promotion criteria, and limited transfer options for our dedicated educators.

In Tamil Nadu, various departments including the School Education Department, Adi Dravidian and Tribal Welfare Department, Backward Classes Welfare Department, Forest Department, and Corporation Administration are running schools separately. Thousands of teachers are working in these schools.

Although all teacher appointments are made through the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) on the basis of a single educational qualification, single examination and single reservation system, after joining the service, teachers are subject to separate rules under different departments. This results in considerable differences in seniority, promotion, general transfer, administrative opportunities, etc.

The disparities currently faced by teachers are manifold. Teachers working in one government department may find themselves with limited career advancement opportunities compared to their peers in another department, despite having similar qualifications and experience.

 In addition, the lack of a unified system complicates the transfer process for teachers wishing to relocate closer to their families or for other personal reasons.

The teaching community has voiced a pressing demand for the Tamil Nadu government to establish a "Unified Teacher Service System" to address these inequities. Such a system would ensure that all teachers, regardless of the department they serve under, receive fair and equitable treatment when it comes to recruitment, promotion, and transfers.

A unified system would not only standardize these processes but also increase job satisfaction, reduce turnover rates, and enhance the overall quality of education. When teachers are treated fairly and have consistent opportunities for growth, they can focus more effectively on their primary responsibility educating our children.Implementing a unified system in Tamil Nadu would align with best practices across the nation and contribute to a more equitable educational environment.

Therefore, teachers have urged the Tamil Nadu government to quickly create a “Unified Teacher Service System” and “Unified General Transfer System” that will include teachers from all departments across the state.

All teacher posts should be brought under the Unified work rules. If a unified teacher service system is created:

Same service rules will be implemented for all teachers.

A single general transfer system will come into effect across the state.

Transparent promotions will be given based on seniority.

Schools with teacher shortages will be able to fill vacancies quickly.

Surplus teachers will be able to be reassigned easily.

Administrative and financial costs will be reduced.
