This April we relaunched the #TEACHTEXTURE Campaign with our new partners, Models of Color Matter.
Did you know most textured hair models are still styling their own hair for television commercials, fashion catalogues and fashion shows because stylist are not fully skilled in texture haircare and styling? Why is this you might ask? Stylist are still graduating without full knowledge of natural textured haircare and styling as a standard practice in cosmetology schools. And textured specialist are not being hired on the sets to style models with textured hair. Although, textured hair practices have been included in textbooks like, Milady Standard Cosmetology, there still isn't inclusive education in the beauty school curriculum.
Diane Da Costa, author, CurlyTextured Expert and owner of Simpleebeautiful and Nicole Doswell, PR Executive and founder of Models of Color Matter have teamed up to advocate for textured inclusiveness in beauty schools and state board examinations.
