The government is taking more than its fair share of our wages. Since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, performers—actors, musicians, dancers, and other creative professionals—have been stripped of the ability to deduct essential business expenses, such as agent and manager commissions, from their W-2 wages. This means we are being unfairly taxed on gross earnings that are 10-30% higher than what we actually take home.

This has gone on for far too long. With a new administration taking office, the time for action is now. We urge the House Ways and Means Committee, Congress, the Senate, and the President to pass H.R.2871 - Performing Artist Tax Parity Act of 2023.
