Transparency and Justice in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District

The Issue

Based on the November 17, 2021 Mid-Hudson News report, it is clear that this year’s  investigation paid for by the taxpayers of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District yielded violations of Title VII and Title IX.  The district itself attributed these findings to Dr. Padilla.

On December 17, 2021 the Mid-Hudson News reported:

“Sources say the board has been negotiating with the suspended superintendent about a potential severance package that includes $750,000 in cash and full benefits for two to three years.” https://midhudsonnews.com/2021/12/17/newburgh-school-district-lacks-transparency-says-state-lawmaker/

Article 7 and Article 10 of Dr. Padilla’s contract states that the Superintendent can be terminated “if found guilty of a crime involving moral turpitude, indecency or immorality,” and “immoral character.” https://www.seethroughny.net/contracts/Newburgh_S_2023.pdf

This is a petition to the Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education to act in accordance with its oath which states:

“I do solemnly affirm and declare that I will support the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of the State of New York, that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of board of education member according to the best of my ability.”

We the undersigned petition the Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education Members to act as follows:

The violations of Title VII and and Title IX by Dr. Padilla require that the Newburgh Enlarged City School District support both New York State and Federal Law. They also clearly breach the contract our school district has with Dr. Padilla.  We petition the NECSD BOE to terminate this employment contract without a cash and benefits pay-out, and to report the violations to law enforcement authorities.
We support the efforts for transparency in these matters made by NECSD BOE member, Mr. Darren Stridiron. The citizens of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District elected Mr. Stridiron. His term expires in 2022.  It is for the residents to register our support or  discontent via our votes.  We petition the Board of Education to ensure that  Mr. Stridiron continues to represent the voters in all matters, including those discussed during executive session.

The entire community is watching.  Our students are watching.  It is time to defend the moral and ethical standards of this district.  This is the job you were elected to do.
