The Issue

As a concerned individual, I've seen firsthand how palm oil, often used by companies like Cadbury's, is having a detrimental impact on our nation. Not only is palm oil a less nutritious substitute in our beloved chocolates, but it's also putting UK dairy farmers under immense strain. The high demand for this cheap imported oil is cutting into the markets for local dairy producers, threatening their livelihoods.

More than just an economic concern, palm oil contributes significantly to deforestation, endangering biodiversity and accelerating climate change. Indonesia and Malaysia lead global production, with devastating environmental consequences that have worldwide repercussions.

Furthermore, it's imperative to consider the health implications. Excessive consumption of products containing palm oil contributes to serious health issues, costing the NHS billions. The financial strain on our healthcare system is unacceptable and preventable.

We call on the UK government to impose a tax on imported palm oil. This decisive action would make it less attractive to chocolate manufacturers like Cadbury's, urging them to return to using locally sourced ingredients. In turn, this supports the UK's dairy industry, stands up for sustainable trade practices, and protects public health.

Join me in urging our leaders to make this crucial change for our environment, our economy, and our health. Your signature can drive real legislative action. Taxing imported palm oil will make a difference. Please sign this petition and advocate for a better future.
