Change Better Buses for Taunton – Campaign Update

Our Change Better Buses for Taunton campaign continues to gather real momentum. We are now nearly at our target of 1,000 online signatures, and when combined with the hundreds of signatures collected at our bus stalls across the town, it sends a clear and powerful message: people want a better, more sustainable bus network for Taunton.

For too long, the county town has been let down by poor public transport. Commuter services to major employment sites have not met the needs of workers, Sunday bus services leave whole communities isolated, and connections between buses and rail remain inconsistent, making onward travel more difficult than it should be.

There are, however, encouraging signs of progress. Over the past year we have seen improved connectivity between West Somerset and Musgrove Park Hospital, with services now calling at The Parade, making journeys easier for patients, visitors and staff. From September, further improvements will help students travel directly to Richard Huish College, while changes to services serving Musgrove Park Hospital will provide better access for key workers at the start and end of their shifts.

These are positive steps, but they are only the beginning. Our campaign is about creating a bus network that works for everyone—one that provides reliable commuter links, better evening and Sunday services, stronger bus and rail integration, and a genuine alternative to the car.
