I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read what Brian Cornell, Target’s CEO, said in a recent New York Times article about our movement to keep Black Friday out of Thanksgiving Day: “If we announced to our guests that we weren’t going to be open on Black Friday, I think we’d have a lot of pushback. It’s a very important part of the holiday season. It really is a family tradition.” Nobody is asking for Target to close on Black Friday. As someone who works in retail, I understand it’s one of the biggest shopping days of the year. The family tradition we were talking about is spending Thanksgiving Day with loved ones, not forcing people to go to work in the afternoon. Let’s make it clear what family traditions we value, and send Mr. Cornell a message to leave Thanksgiving Day alone. Will you take a minute to Tweet at him with me? It’s as easy as clicking this link: http://ctt.ec/qdeB8 You can also Tweet this yourself: Hey, @Target! Keep Black Friday on Friday, and don’t open on Thanksgiving Day. http://chn.ge/1Pknji6 Thanks, Ryan
