Actualización de la peticiónStop Glorification of Stalking in Tamil Films!#CallingOutStalking is once again in the limelight: You have brought us this far!

Last week, we made a request to all of you to tweet to Actor Sivakarthikeyan that we will #BoycottRemo. We are so grateful to all those who responded to our call and tweeted to him, and also to others who joined us in boycotting the film by not watching it in theatres. As expected, the movie released to harshly critical reviews by many media outlets, especially for its blatant sexism, misogyny and glorification of stalking. Most significantly, popular Tamil weekly Ananda Vikatan (citing the case of stalking-murder victim Francina) called the movie "detrimental to both Tamil cinema and society."
We are extremely glad that onscreen stalking does not go unquestioned and it has been heartening to see the discussions on social media quoting not only the latest release Remo, but earlier instances of glorified stalking in Tamil films as well. After all, our intention is not to target any individual or organisation in particular but to keep the conversation on the evils of stalking alive. This also gave us a chance to spread awareness among social media users about the legal definition of stalking under sec. 354D and its implications.
Yesterday, our petitioner Iswarya appeared on the live TV show 'Nerpada Pesu' on Pudhiya Thalaimurai channel where the subject of discussion was onscreen stalking and its real-life impact. We attach here a link to the YouTube video for those missed the show or could not access the channel. We are glad to note that stalking is not referred to as an innocent or playful activity in Tamil; instead, almost all participants on the show use the term 'vanthodardhal' that clearly underlines the psychological violence involved in stalking.
We are really touched by your support in helping us reach here. Please do continue to help us in getting this message across to a wider public and also to the film industry.
Do share the petition link once again on social media so that we may quickly reach our next target of 5000 signatures. We welcome your suggestions for further outreach efforts. Please mail us at antistalkingpetition@gmail.com
