Good news, everyone. Though it was only a handful of you who tweeted to Actor Sivakarthikeyan, we have managed to start a conversation. Those who read his interview yesterday will find that he has now revised his stance towards stalking. He now says, in an updated version of the same interview, "Stalking is indeed bad. One should always respect women and they should feel safe in society. I've never troubled a single woman in my life and have actually grown around them - be it my mom, sister, wife or daughter." All fine sentiments, made in desperate damage control mode, but it still leaves the question open as to how women will feel safe, if any man who wants to marry them keeps following them everywhere, whether or not the woman is interested. That he feels the need to add a statement that he personally respects women is sadly beside the point.
Regarding his onscreen stalking, he still maintains that "This is also a kind of love and he is relentless in his approach towards a single girl just to make her reciprocate his love. He doesn't have any other intentions and doesn't move on, come what may, as his love is pure." Talk about obsession and typical stalker behaviour! Sorry, Mr. Sivakarthikeyan, we don't even see a hint of apology in your words or any indication that you have even understood what stalking really means. If you need a reminder, the killers of Naveena, Sonali, Dhanya, Francina, Deepika, and Karuna also refused to take a "No" and move on, probably because they considered their love also "pure."
We thank all of you for spearheading this change and provoking a response. This only proves that we can really bring about change if we all make an effort. Please continue to tweet to the actor and tell him that his understanding of "love" is hopeless and we will go ahead and #BoycottRemo! We have only a few hours to go before the movie releases and this is the time to show our protest. The direct tweet link is here: http://ctt.ec/_a87t (Please spend a few seconds to tweet to the actor to show where you stand with respect to onscreen stalking, even if you are not generally in the habit of watching his films).
Let us keep the #BoycottRemo hashtag trending tonight. Please continue to stand with us in #CallingOutStalking.
