It doesn't end with Swathi, not even with Naveena who was burnt alive by her stalker and died earlier this month. In the last two days, engineering student Sonali has been bludgeoned to death and schoolteacher Francina fatally hacked, both by stalkers whom they had turned down. How can any woman in Tamilnadu feel safe any longer? Who has encouraged these men to think that their right to 'love' is greater than any woman's right to LIVE? What is this warped notion of love, anyway? How many families must lose their beloved daughters and sisters before everyone realizes that stalking is not love, not romantic, not an innocent harmless action? Please tell our filmmakers in a loud voice that stalking is unacceptable, that it's a crime and has to be shown as such in movies watched by children and teenagers. It is NOT heroic and no man has the right to 'follow' or harass or harm a woman after she has said, "No." Films need to acknowledge that a "No" is a "No," not a "Maybe," not a "Yes." As viewers of cinema, let us tell filmmakers that we will not watch or support movies that glorify stalking. Please share this petition with friends, family and all the people you know until our voice reaches them. Our petition has just begun to get noticed by the Tamil media as well. Let us keep the pressure on our filmmakers by #CallingOutStalking.
