The Issue

31st July UPDATE: 8/9 of the swans that lived on the lake have now died, that’s the mother swan and 9 cygnets, the Cob is critical at South Essex Wildlife Hospital. Heartbreaking - please read on, sign and share.

Canvey Lake  is in peril, and witnessing the daily, needless deaths of its wildlife is nothing short of heartbreaking. Each dead fish, every lifeless bird is a painful reminder that something needs to be done.

Immediate intervention is needed to halt this decline. We call upon the local government and environmental agencies to implement comprehensive water quality assessments, establish effective conservation strategies, and initiate long-term restoration projects.

Save the Wildlife of Canvey Lake: Start Full Restoration Works Now!

Toxic blue-green algae and plummeting oxygen levels in Canvey Lake are killing our local wildfowl and fish. While the council has taken over the site and committed funding - the animals are dying today.

We demand that Castle Point Borough Council immediately fast-track the full ecological restoration, publish a concrete timeline for the promised dredging, and deploy immediate emergency aeration to stop the ongoing wildlife crisis. Don't wait until winter; save our lake now!

Please sign this petition to demand urgent action from our authorities to restore and protect Canvey Lake before it's too late.

We have a collective responsibility to safeguard Canvey Lake for future generations. This treasured natural asset deserves our protection, and together, we can ensure it continues to support vibrant wildlife and communities.

Canvey Lake is not just a body of water; it is a Local Nature Reserve that is home to diverse species of fish, birds, and other wildlife. Moreover, it serves as an invaluable green space for our community, a place where families gather - we haven’t got many left.
