Confederate Monument Relocation Update - Bastrop, County
The monument relocation committee has narrowed down our list of possible site locations and will be present to the court recommendations during the regular session meeting on December 14th.
In fulfilling the charge of the court our goal was to ensure that we were able to find a new home for the monuments that would satisfy both sides of the issue and we confidently feel we are nearing the end of completing that process.
To date, we have received just over $17,000 in contribution and we are slowly inching towards to total cost of the project ($50,000). To accomplish this we still need the help of the community to raise the remaining funds to complete the project.
It took the community to help get the yes vote from the commissioners court, and it will take the community to ensure that those efforts were not made in vain. If you were a supporter of the efforts to remove them from the courthouse grounds, please be a supporter by contributing to the cause. We are 1,700 $20.00 away from reaching our goal. If you have given $10.00 give $10 more. If you haven't given at all, give $20, and if you can spare more, give more.
