The issue

Small plastic, big problem!

Bread tags are small yet insidious contributors to plastic pollution. They are difficult to recycle and found in waterways, wildlife habitats and landfill. Bread tags are made out of type 6 plastic which breaks down into microplastics far too easily. With every Victorian disposing of 68kg of single use plastic to landfills annually, Victoria has an opportunity to legislate a ban and help reduce the state's reliance on single-use plastics.

If South Australia can do it, so can we! With viable cost-effective cardboard alternatives already in use by brands like Tip Top, we believe it's time that the Victorian government took to the stand and included plastic bread tags in its single-use plastics ban.

Tag the Change is calling for the ban of single-use plastic bread tags in Victoria and their replacement with sustainable cardboard alternatives by mid-2027.

We need your help to get there, so sign the petition today and #TagtheChange!
