The students of Taft High School feel very unsafe due to the COVID-19 outbreak. CPS is not shutting down schools due to the coronavirus and many parents and students are upset. If students are still being told to come to school we are asking for at least a clean environment. Three staff members are currently unable to come to school due to home quarantine because they attended Vaughn Occupational High School. Administration has failed to notify students and parents through any type of letter or email or phone call. Our school bathrooms barely have soap as it is. Some sinks don’t work. Not every classroom has hand sanitizer. We are asking for Taft High School to do a deep clean of the entire school. By doing so, students will at least feel more safe knowing they are in a clean environment. Taft has inadequate cleaning of the school as it is, and due to the circumstances, students and parents would feel more secure knowing their school is completely sanitized and clean and for soap. We are not necessarily asking for the school to be shut down on school days but for this to maybe happen on a weekend since school cannot be shut down at the moment. We want our voices to be heard and we want a clean school and soap in all of our bathrooms.
