The Issue

Sydenham Road in Croydon experiences high levels of traffic, causing pollution and safety concerns for our community. Our local neighbourhood deserves better.

The closure of the National Rail bridge for 6 months has given us the opportunity to transform our streets into a low traffic neighbourhood permanently (LTN), which have been proven to reduce air pollution by up to 25% in other areas of the UK (source: Transport for London). LTNs also encourage walking and cycling, contributing to healthier lifestyles and reducing obesity rates. In the short of space of time the bridge has been closed we have seen what a positive impact the reduction in traffic has caused. By implementing a permanent LTN, we can create a safer, cleaner, and healthier environment for all residents of Sydenham Road and the surrounding streets, and for the children travelling to and from the primary schools on Sydenham Road.

Croydon implement a policy called ‘Healthy Neighbourhoods’ which allow local residents to continue to driving through the area but restricts non-residents from passing through. A healthy neighbourhood with cameras installed on the national rail bridge would create the quiet streets we have now permanently.

This is not just about improving today; it's about securing a better future for the next generation growing up in our community. Sign this petition if you believe in creating a healthier neighbourhood through the implementation of a Low Traffic Neighbourhood for Sydenham Road!
