This petition -- asking for a heritage building to be used for a Museum and Art Gallery, as opposed to a newbuild £22m site, is being presented THIS Thursday night (25/1) at the Full Council Meeting of SBC at the Civic Offices. I hope people will attend. Since the presentation of the petition, heavyweights in the Council are try to negate the petition by claiming that the 2.5k people signing since March 2017 will have changed their minds. These Council claims are because the small part of the Carriage Works -- the suggested alternative location -- that has been thusfar hurriedly developed and earmarked both for business hubs and and a (small) university facility, These earmarked uses for a Carriage Works location could EASILY co-exist with a Carriage Works Museum and Art Gallery, even providing it some necessary, sustaining income that the newbuild is really lacking. It is disgusting that SBC are claiming that the newbuild option enjoys wide support, given its postcard signing is at best a dubious means of gauging public support. Let's see how many people sign also add to this petition in just two days... In the last months, the online signatures for this petition doubled... I wonder if we could have another burst of signatures to show that this is NOT a dead issue? Thank you -- I hope people will be able to come to witness how SBC deal with the concerns of ordinary people on Thursday 25/1 at 7pm.
