SMAG version of 'public consultation' very dubious

So the SMAG new-build team are out and about at public events, handing out postcards to people immediately as they pass and now claim to have over 1000 supporters. This is a very dubious way to claim that this is clear support. Here are some comments posted on Facebook: 'I went to the fair on the Lawns yesterday and they thrust the postcard into my hands and told me to sign it - most people would feel too awkward, especially young people, there were plenty of them there...' ' I had a postcard almost forced on me at the festival at the weekend so these are fake numbers.' A proper, well-publicised public vote needs to happen as there are so many people in Swindon seriously concerned that our heritage buildings need access to the HLF funding. A public vote took place some years back to choose a statue for The Parade. What are SBC and SMAG afraid of by having a properly-managed public vote?
