Why: The Sweetwater Union High School District recently made a decision to change school zone boundaries, where San Miguel Ranch residents (west of CA-125) may no longer send their children to Eastlake Middle School or Eastlake High School.  SUHSD argues that because Eastlake Middle/High Schools are overcrowded and Bonita Vista Middle/High Schools are underutilized, this is a solution for rebalancing the population at these schools.  Residents in the aforementioned areas feel strongly, however, that they are part of the Eastlake/San Miguel Ranch community, purchased their homes largely so that they could send their kids to Eastlake schools, and furthermore, have paid Mello-Roos taxes in order to build and maintain such schools.  We believe it is in the best interest of the San Miguel Ranch/Eastlake community to keep our children in the Eastlake schools in order to retain home values and our deep sense of community.
