Mr. Laughinghouse changes lives, and we are telling his side of the story. He was victimized; the school should not have punished the victim. The next Onslow County School Board Meeting is May 2nd at 6:30 PM at Blue Creek Elementary School. I plan to be there no matter what decision is made. Even if the Board decides on Monday to reinstate Mr. Laughinghouse, I will still be there. Here’s why: CYBERBULLYING IS WRONG! It’s time that Onslow County do more to prevent this type of action from occurring, so I’m going to be there to suggest that the School Board start the process of gathering information from students, staff and parents at schools around the county about the online environment among the community. The county can then use that information to begin the process of forming a curriculum that specifically addresses this issue. We have Home Room classes in Schools for a reason; let’s use them to teach something that matters. The school board also needs to enact a stricter policy on cyberbullying and much like the new Marine and Navy Requirement, every student should be required to sign a copy of that policy to ensure that they can be held accountable if it is broken. Let’s start teaching our children about Cyberbullying earlier, that policy should be signed in both Middle and High School, everybody needs a reminder. If you would like to be there and support that plan, be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early. We have to be there early to add our names to the agenda.
