SVUSD parents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend SVUSD school board meetings in person. However, the crowd often exceeds the board room capacity, and it’s challenging to hear outside speakers clearly. Most importantly, many struggle to make it to the district office by 6 pm due to busy kids, work, and sports schedules.

I’m initiating this petition to request support from SVUSD. Superintendent Dr. Turner and the Saddleback Valley Unified School District Board of Education have consistently responded to our requests for live streaming of all public school board meetings with the following statement: “At this time, we do not have plans to offer live-streaming of SVUSD’s Board Meetings. Our Board Room does not have the necessary infrastructure to do so.”

Many parents, including myself, have made this request repeatedly over the past 2+ years and believe it’s time for reconsideration. Creating the “necessary infrastructure” could be as simple as setting up a tripod camera and connecting it to the internet. There should be no excuse for not going live.

Taking it a step further, offering an interactive meeting experience similar to Zoom, where online attendees can speak, ask questions, or make public comments, would be a significant improvement (although I won’t hold my breath).
