The Issue

Mosquito-borne diseases, particularly dengue fever, have been a persistent threat to public health in the Philippines. The situation demands immediate action and awareness to safeguard our communities. Dengue, a viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, has shown alarming growth in case numbers over recent years. According to The Department of Health (DOH), over 15,000 dengue cases of dengue were recorded in the country from July 20 to August 2, 2025 (Salcedo, 2025).

The Department of Health (DOH) also reported an alarming rise in dengue cases in nine areas in Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), and Metro Manila (Salcedo, 2025), with children being the most vulnerable because their immune systems are weaker than adults and they tend to play outside where there’s less protection against the mosquitos (Save the Children, 2019). Hospitalizations have stretched healthcare facilities, straining resources, and impacting the quality of care.

Collective community action is crucial. We urge local government units, schools, and community leaders to intensify their efforts in implementing mosquito-control measures. Routine fogging and cleaning drives, coupled with educational campaigns about preventive measures, can significantly reduce breeding sites for mosquitoes.

Moreover, empowering communities through workshops on maintaining clean environments and recognizing symptoms of dengue can foster early intervention. Encouraging citizens to actively participate in local sanitation initiatives and promptly report cases to health authorities can curb the spread effectively.

We call upon the Department of Health to increase funding and support for research into more effective dengue prevention and treatment methods. Partnering with NGOs and international organizations can bring in expertise and resources to tackle this crisis.

Join us in this fight against mosquito-borne diseases and protect our communities. Every signature is a step towards a healthier, safer Philippines. Please sign this petition to make a tangible difference in combating dengue fever and safeguarding public health in our beloved nation.
