The Issue

In the heart of Linlithgow, the safety of our children and others is at risk. Low Port Primary School is situated on Blackness Road, which despite its 20mph speed limit, has become a hotspot for speeding vehicles.

Speeding in the 20mph zone poses a significant danger not only to children but also to parents, teachers, and residents who are simply going about their daily routines. Speeding vehicles can cause severe accidents, resulting in potential injuries or even fatalities. According to a study by the UK Department for Transport, lowering speed limits in residential areas significantly reduces the risk of casualties. However, these benefits can only be fully realised if drivers adhere to these speed limits.

We propose the implementation of additional traffic calming measures to mitigate this risk. These measures may include speed bumps, police speed traps, or speed cameras. These solutions have been effective in numerous communities across the UK, leading to a reduction in speeding and, consequently, a decrease in traffic-related accidents.

Our petition is a request for our local councillors to prioritise the safety of local people and implement necessary changes.

By signing this petition, you are voicing your concern and advocating for practical solutions to protect the people, young and old of Linlithgow. We urge our local leaders to listen to the collective voices of their constituents and to act swiftly.

Sign this petition to make a commitment to the safety and well-being of our community and support traffic calming measures outside Low Port Primary School.
