Support Tom Cotton and Remove Jahlen Johnson from all social media platforms
The issue
Tragically, the impacts of bullying can be far-reaching and devastating. An individual and his family are being unfairly targeted in our community. Senator Tom Cotton, a devoted family man and a diligent public servant, has recently been subjected to malicious attacks on social media platforms by Jahlen Johnson for merely executing his duties and taking a stand on certain issues like TikTok. As a firm believer in freedom of speech and the press, it is unfortunate that someone like Jahlen would wish for Tom to be jobless based merely on his stance on an issue.
Bullying in all its forms is serious and must be addressed urgently. Statistics indicate that bullying inflicts profound emotional and psychological damage. According to a study by the National Centre for Biotechnology Information, about 20% of people who have been bullied experience some mental health problems later in life, even at age 50.
It is unacceptable for social media platforms to be used as instruments of hate and personal vendetta. Senator Cotton’s questioning during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on TikTok was both valid and necessary, as it addressed concerns about data privacy and national security. His inquiries regarding TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew’s nationality and potential affiliations with the Chinese Communist Party were perfectly normal and aligned with his responsibilities as a public servant. Despite Chew's clarification that he is a Singaporean citizen and not affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party, the concern stems from TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, and China's laws requiring companies to cooperate with government intelligence agencies. It is clear that Cotton’s focus was on safeguarding national interests, not personal attack.
Unfortunately, Chew’s answers seemed more intended to humiliate Senator Cotton and Congress as a whole, possibly to gain a following, rather than addressing legitimate concerns. This does not justify the online harassment Senator Cotton has faced for fulfilling his duties.
It is, therefore, within this context that we urge for Jahlen Johnson to be banned from all social media platforms to curtail her acts of online bullying. Simultaneously, it's a call to uphold democracy and safeguard the rights of public servants like Senator Tom Cotton, allowing him to carry out his duties without fear or prejudice.
These measures are vital to upholding the principles of respect, honour, and justice that our community so dearly prides itself on. Please join us in this campaign to retain Senator Tom Cotton and stop online bullying by banning Jahlen Johnson from all social media platforms.
I'm not expecting this petition will get anywhere near as many signatures (if any at all) as the call for Cotton to resign because 1. I have no intention of promoting this in any way, and 2. Most, if not all, of those who voted against Cotton have really pathetic reasons for voting. You only need to read their comments. If only you Americans had this much passion about ALL of the other issues your country has (most of which are much more impactful than your precious Tiktok), maybe America could be great again.
This petition is intended purely as a way of telling Cotton that not everyone is against him - and to tell Jahlen to stick it.
We're here for you Tom!
