Draft Letter:
Dear [Mayor/Councillor/Chair of Regional Council],
I am writing to express my strong support for a multi-purpose sport stadium in Waterloo Region—a facility that is long overdue in our growing community.
With the region’s population projected to exceed 1 million by 2035, we lack the infrastructure needed to host tournaments, championships, concerts, cultural events, and training opportunities for local athletes.
From 1967 to 2010, Centennial Stadium was a centerpiece of community and national events, hosting:
Senior Games, Provincial and National Championships
Central Ontario Exhibition and Agriculture Fair
Concerts, Marching Bands, Powwows, and Cultural events
Fireworks Displays
OFSAA High School Track & Field meets
The Record International Track & Field meet
Athletics Canada championships
Unfortunately, this once-vibrant facility has fallen into disrepair. The grandstands were condemned, the track was shuttered, and its legacy faded. While the infield remains active for sports like rugby, soccer, and football, the lack of a proper track and spectator seating leaves our region without a premier venue for major events.
This is a missed opportunity for our community. A modern multi-purpose stadium would:
✔️ Attract provincial and national events, boosting economic growth
✔️ Provide local athletes and teams with a high-quality training and competition venue
✔️ Create a space for cultural and community events
✔️ Strengthen community pride and regional identity
I support the vision put forward by the Kitchener Waterloo Sports Council to create a facility that will serve future generations. I urge you to prioritize this initiative and champion the investment in a world-class venue for sports, recreation, and community gathering.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response and to working together on this important project.
Sincerely,
