It’s exactly 1 week until people in dozens of towns and cities across the country take to the streets for our biggest #ClimateStrike since the global pandemic began.
As the world adjusts to these unprecedented times, the climate crisis is not going away. And that’s why all of us are needed on May 21 - to remind our Government that they can’t keep pretending that the climate crisis isn’t getting worse on their watch. They must act, not throw hundreds of millions of our dollars at new gas projects.
Everyone is needed on May 21 because, as Australia and the world adapts to Covid, our Government is working hard to convince the community that we need gas, when in truth it will add unnecessary fuel to the tragic climate fires that our support for coal and gas has set alight.
Everyone is needed, because just as Covid is destroying lives and livelihoods, so too is climate change, so too is coal and gas.
I was always anxious about the climate crisis growing up, but I never thought I could do anything about it until I went to my first strike in 2019. This photo is me speaking last year.

I strike for a world where young and marginalised people are no longer fearful of their future.
We need leaders who won’t shy away from these realities, who aren’t afraid to look these enormous challenges in the face, admit they’re hard, unprecedented & uncomfortable and then put every ounce of their leadership into working with all of us to solve them.
Because there isn’t time to waste. The impacts of the climate crisis on the people and places we love are mounting by the day. Just recently, researchers have found that we are erasing some of the world’s oldest rock art with our climate pollution, and if that wasn’t sobering enough, we are shifting the earth’s axis too, as glaciers melt and redistribute weight around the globe. We are literally changing the face of the earth. What will be next?
There is a different way, but it will take building more power than we ever have before through social movements. It will take all of us having heartfelt conversations, organising in our communities, taking brave collective action, and reaching out to those we’ve never spoken with to invite them to join us to do the same.
It will take all of us coming together. And it starts now.
