School Strike 4 ClimateCastlemaine, Australia
Sep 13, 2020

Hey Friends,

The Morrison government says they care for the rural and regional areas, so we know action in rural and regional areas will shake them.

You won't see a fracking well in the city, but you’ll see it out here. The land is consistently destroyed for resources and we are left with poisoned rivers, bushfires, and floods. On September 25th, we have an opportunity to show the government we want a safe future for the regions and not more gas - but we need your support.

Can you chip in to help support me and other rural and regional strikers to join the #FundOurFutureNotGas day of action on September 25th?

Already there are over one hundred actions taking place across Australia on September 25th, and the majority of those are in rural and regional areas.

Even though our actions will be small Covid safe gatherings, they still have expenses. We want to do things properly, and pay local Elders to Welcome us to Country, to get material so our banners look awesome, to get a megaphone for chanting.

In the past, many of us rural and regional strikers have paid for these things out of our own pocket, myself included. If it means we can have a safe future, we’re happy to cover the cost. But we’d be even happier if you’re able to help us.

Will you chip in to our crowdfunder to help rural and regional strikers host local actions to show the Morrison government we don’t want more fossil fuel projects?

Here in Bunbury WA, we are already feeling the impacts of the climate crisis first hand. I remember when I was little listening to the summer radio with my family when it used to just play music. Now there are bushfire warnings between every song.

It's scary. Knowing that because I live with the coast on one side and forest on the other, at any time the water could surge or a bushfire could get out of hand.

A few years ago around where I live, a whole town was destroyed by a bushfire. It was then I knew there must be other students out this way feeling scared and angry at our politicians too and getting connected to the strike movement made me realise I was not only not alone, and that I could make a difference.

Will you chip in so we can make sure our actions are a success? We want to reach out to as many people as we can on September 25th and any amount would help!

We know Morrison tries to sell himself as a man for the regions, that's why he is more likely to sit up and pay attention to us, but we need to be loud!

Help us make sure everyone knows - rural and regional kids don’t not want gas.

See you on September 25th,

Bella - 14 year old Student Striker from Bunbury WA

PS. If you can’t give money, then please join the day of action! Because of the pandemic, it’s not about turnout, it’s about the sheer number of actions - so we need everyone. Click here to find guides about how to organise an action - it’s easy!
