Dear fellow community members, players, and parents,

We are writing to you today as passionate members of the community who strongly believe in the spirit of sports and activity to bring people together.  We plan to present this petition and a formal proposal to the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District (THPRD).  As players, enthusiasts, and parents that have experienced the joy and fellowship that comes from playing hockey and practicing roller sports at Tualatin Hills Park Outdoor Hockey Rink, we are dedicated to efforts for improving its condition for people to enjoy and feel safe.

Recently, Indoor Goals had announced their closure in October.  Without Indoor Goals, there will not be a place for the youth roller hockey program to practice and the sport will unlikely have a future.  The Tualatin Hills Park Outdoor Hockey Rink has been a cherished space for our community for many years. However, over time its condition has worsened due to wear and tear, plus lack of covering. 

To ensure the safety of all participants and create an inclusive environment for players of all ages and skill levels, we are calling on the community members, businesses, and local authorities to invest in revitalizing the Tualatin Hills Park Outdoor Hockey Rink. By doing so, we can enhance opportunities for hockey and sports enthusiasts like ourselves, as well as those interested in roller skating or playing lacrosse/indoor soccer.

Here are some key reasons why this petition is crucial:

1. Safety concerns:  By renovating it with proper maintenance measures like resurfacing cracks or replacing damaged boards, we can significantly reduce the risks of injuries.  By providing a waterproof cover, the rink can be used year round and mitigate liability with a dry surface.

2. Community engagement: A well-maintained outdoor rink will foster a sense of belonging within our community by providing a gathering place where people can come together to enjoy their favorite sports activities throughout the year.

3. Health benefits: Roller sports and the related uses of the rink offer numerous physical health benefits such as improved cardiovascular fitness, increased muscle strength, enhanced coordination skills, and stress relief. By investing in this project, we are promoting a healthier lifestyle for our community members.

4. Economic impact: A revitalized rink will attract more visitors to the area, benefiting local businesses and boosting the overall economy. This project has the potential to create jobs during construction and generate revenue through increased tourism.  Local businesses will also be encouraged to sponsor/advertise at the revamped rink, promoting their business to a wider audience to in-district and visiting people.

To achieve these goals, we need your support! By signing this petition, you are expressing your desire for local authorities to prioritize the revitalization of Tualatin Hills Park Outdoor Hockey Rink. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that future generations have access to a safe and vibrant space for playing hockey, roller skating, indoor soccer, lacrosse, skateboarding, "bike polo", and practicing various roller sports.
