Today marks the last day for Seasoul Sauna, our community is devastated and it leaves a gaping hole in many people's daily lives.
When the sauna first opened, many people said "Wow, I can't believe this is actually on our little beach in Mordialloc"... it was such a contemporary and much needed initiative and Mordi was the pioneer.
Allegedly, one local resident didn't like the sauna as it was placed in their “unofficial car park” on our very public "precious" foreshore.
This resident is influential with our council and no doubt also a$$isted with the most recent council election. We are still waiting for the freedom of information response, which will be released at some stage, but conveniently not before the sauna closes.
We've spent 6 months fighting this, and the Mayor has refused to sit down with the owner EVER during this campaign. There has still never been A SINGLE meeting to discuss the business, the trial results or any alternative locations, she hasn't even sent one email...in response to anyone. This elected Mayor has shown us that her constituents do not matter and that in her opinion, we do not even deserve the most basic consultation. In fact, it's on public record the Mayor and the deputy mayor believe ratepayers have "gone too far!!" with our peaceful campaign.
Your vote matters at election time and only then... when you vote in your next council, remember this…
Remember the lies we were told by council officers, Mayor, deputy Mayor and CEO.
Remember the lies they blatantly shared with the media.
The closure of Seasoul is a stain on the City of Kingston.
Small business and community health and wellbeing clearly mean nothing to this ridiculous excuse for a council.
Amy Salisbury is an incredible human and her community work will remain in Mordi. Her business will thrive wherever she goes, just sadly, no longer here.
Thank you to Tess Law, Hadi Saab, Chris Hill and Kiralee Ashworth-Collette for your public support.
To all of you, our beautiful supporters, thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts for being there for us - for making posters, for talking to friends and family about this campaign, for showing up time and time again, and for booking out the sauna over the last week. We are forever grateful for your solidarity, and your tireless efforts to fight the good fight with us.
This is not the end.
Keep an eye on @soulsaunagroup, and remember: Many hearts, one soul.
🌊♨️💛 with love and gratitude, Amy, Kate, Lisa and the SoulSauna Group xoxo
