Support the Redevelopment of The Historic English Ave School
The Issue
We, the residents and stakeholders of the English Ave Community, petition the Atlanta Public School (“APS”) Superintendent and APS Board of Education to take all necessary action to support the proposed redevelopment plans of the English Ave School at 627 English Ave, NW Atlanta 30318.
The School was closed and vacated by APS in 1995. At present, the school is vacant, rapidly deteriorating, and in danger of being permanently lost. Historically, the property has been a blight on the community and a barrier for improving the community.
The owner of the property, Westside Development Partners, LLC and developer, The Optimal Company, have met with the community over the past four years and proposed a plan that we strongly support, The plan includes completing a historic preservation of the school into a Community Center, Meeting and Event Space. The proposed plan also includes a Workforce Development and Resource Center that will provide training opportunities for the community in high-paying high demand job opportunities.
WE DEMAND ACTION BE TAKEN BY THE APS BOARD NO LATER THAN THE NEXT APS BOARD MEETING ON JUNE 6TH, 2022.
