🚨 Update: I’ve Sent a Formal Request to the City 🚨

Today I sent a detailed letter to Mayor Henriquez and the Key West City Commissioners urging immediate action on the chicken issue—and not the kind of action you might expect.
With thousands of people signing the petition and serious concerns coming to light from internal city emails, I asked the Commission to:
🔍 Release any documentation backing their claims about chicken-related damage
🛑 Pause all trapping/removal plans until the public can weigh in
🐓 Support a humane, education-based approach that includes signage, public outreach, and enforcement of the $500 fine already on the books
🗣️ Create a whistleblower protection and reporting process for city staff and residents
🤝 Include the community (yes, that means you) in future decisions—not just closed-door conversations
I also formally requested to be involved in the process going forward.
This is about more than chickens. It’s about transparency, accountability, and community values. We deserve to know what’s being planned before decisions are made behind the scenes.
If you believe in ethical governance, protecting Key West’s spirit, and finding real solutions that reflect our island—not erase it—I hope you’ll stand with me.
📧 Want to email the commissioners yourself? I’m happy to help you draft one. Let’s keep pushing for truth and humane solutions.
