As the owner of a community retail pharmacy, I am personally invested in providing exceptional care to my patients. Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) currently inhibit this mission. Their predatory and opaque practices decrease pharmacy reimbursements, ultimately limiting the care we can provide for our patients. Thorough research (Congressional Budget Office, 2020) suggests PBMs contribute to inflated drug prices with their excessive “clawback” fees and lack of transparency. This is a grave disservice to both pharmacists and patients alike.

The Pharmacist Fight Back Act H.R. 9096 offers the change we urgently require. This legislation aims to significantly restrict the control PBMs have. It proposes transparent pricing models, precise definitions of terms like “average wholesale price,” and adequate assurance of fair dealings. By supporting this Act, we can enable pharmacists across the country to continue providing the highest quality of care for their patients.

Pharmacy is much more than a business; it is a lifeline for our patients.
