Seng Yang works at the Madison Metropolitan School District and La Follette High School as a Hmong Bilingual Resource Specialist and advisor to the La Follette Asian Club. He has worked at MMSD for over thirty years and is a pillar of the Hmong community, mentoring countless families and students.

After over thirty years of spotless service, Seng Yang was removed from La Follette High School with no explanation after he stood up for the La Follette Asian Club during an incident where some students harassed the Asian Club and shouted racist remarks at Asian Club members and Seng. Seng Yang is the only Hmong staff member at La Follette High School despite the large number of Hmong students at the school. Many students look up to him and he is the only staff member at La Follette High School who can speak Hmong. His language skills and life experience are essential parts of the school community.

After months of patience and trusting the process with no update from the district, we are demanding the situation be resolved and Seng Yang be allowed to return to La Follette High School. Not having any transparency about this process has harmed the relationship between MMSD and the broader Hmong community in Madison, and MMSD has to make it right.
