Great news! No we are not yet there but the Grocery Subsidy Scheme (GSS) has been validated. See the attached link: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02-10/why-remote-community-groceries-are-so-high-city-prices-match/104917376
Should you be wary about clicking on links, here's a short synopsis. The Labor government have agreed to fund a grocery subsidy scheme in remote communities of the Northern Territory. This scheme validates that the GSS is a solution to the cost of groceries. Additionally, further articles support the federal government is not suitable to administer a grocery subsidy scheme.
Unfortunately, the government funding appears to be made available only to those in the Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander community. For the majority of us who do not fall into this small minority group, this is not good enough. We all deserve help with the cost-of-living crisis, especially the ridiculous cost of groceries! A crisis largely attributed to by the lack of government action that allowed the formation of the Coles and Woolworths duopoly.
While your help to date is greatly appreciated, please revisit with your friends, family and anyone who will listen to get behind the GSS and sign the petition! Victory is one step closer : )
People matter!
