Das Problem

We need your help.

When you think of mountain rescue, you are probably thinking about hill walkers and climbers. But the volunteers of the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team do so much more. We also support:

  • Local residents in emergencies
  • Missing person searches with Police Scotland
  • Injured workers in remote areas
  • Community events and outdoor activities
  • Young people taking their first steps into the outdoors

Every year, lives are saved in the mountains above Arrochar.

Our volunteer team responds—day or night, in all conditions, without hesitation—saving lives across Argyll and Bute.

For over 30 years, our dedicated team has been here for our community. We

  • Have 30 trained volunteers
  • Are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
  • Cover 2,000 km² of remote and challenging terrain
  • Respond to emergencies, supporting Police Scotland and the
  • Scottish Ambulance Service
  • Help locals, visitors, farmers, young people, and vulnerable residents

But now, we need your help to demonstrate community backing of the team:

Demand for our services has surged, with callouts increasing by nearly 50% in recent years. Outdoor activity is booming, and millions of people visit the area every year.

With more rescue equipment and vehicles, our rescue post, which was gifted to the team in 2004, is being pushed beyond its limits. By extending our existing building, we will:

  • Create a dedicated “relatives and visitors room” separate from the main operational area, providing a calm, private space to support casualties and their families during or after difficult incidents.
  • When not in use during call-outs, this versatile space will also open up further opportunities to invite visitors from the community (e.g. schools) into our premises.
  • A purpose-designed operations room located away from the entrance to reduce interruptions during emergency deployments.
  • Expanded drying and storage areas, prolonging equipment life and supporting rapid redeployment.

We have secured planning permission and the building warrant for this project. However, this isn’t just a building upgrade, but it's an investment in our community to ensure the Rescue team is here for the next 30 years.

This project has already received substantial backing—but to secure major funding from the council and grant providers, we need to demonstrate clear, visible community support.

That’s where you come in.

By signing this petition, you are helping to:

  • Show decision-makers that the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team matters
  • Helping us to strengthen our funding applications
  • Ensuring that we protect and future-proof a vital community emergency service
  • Support the volunteers who are always there for you

Please sign this petition to support the future of Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team.
